Secure Intermodal Storage: Maximize Space & Efficiency.
Intermodal containers represent a highly efficient and scalable storage solution, and strategically utilizing a warehouse storage facility maximizes their potential. Warehouses provide a robust, secure environment ideal for bulk storage, offering significant advantages over alternative methods. The inherent strength and standardized dimensions of containers allow for dense stacking, dramatically increasing storage capacity within a given footprint. Proper layout and racking systems are key, optimizing space utilization and facilitating easy retrieval. Warehouse facilities offer robust security measures, including surveillance and access control, safeguarding valuable cargo. Furthermore, their logistical connectivity – often situated near transportation hubs – simplifies receiving and dispatch operations, streamlining supply chains. Efficient storage within a warehouse reduces handling costs and minimizes the risk of damage during storage. The organized nature of container storage within a warehouse also contributes to accurate inventory management and improved operational visibility. This makes it a financially sound and practical choice for businesses managing large volumes of intermodal containers.
Storage Size/Dimensions: Minimum 100 square feet per container, 10ft x 10ft area recommended, Height clearance: 8 feet. Allow for 3ft of aisle space between containers.
Storage Conditions: Dry storage is essential. The area must be well-ventilated to prevent moisture buildup. Ensure the floor is level and capable of supporting the weight of stacked containers. Avoid direct sunlight exposure.
Special Handling: Containers should be handled with care to prevent damage. Items within containers should be adequately padded to protect against impacts. Heavy items require forklift assistance. Consider using protective corner guards on containers.
Stacking/Shelving: Containers can be stacked to maximize space. Pallet storage is suitable, utilizing standard pallets (48” x 40”). Shelving is optional but can improve organization. Maximum stack height should be no more than 3 containers high for stability.
Access Requirements: A loading dock with a minimum width of 12 feet is required. The door width should be at least 10 feet. A clear clearance space of 10 feet adjacent to the door is needed for forklift access. Ensure the loading dock surface is stable and capable of handling heavy container movement.
