Storage Size/Dimensions: Minimum 500 square feet, ideally 600-800 sq ft. Individual artifact storage areas should be a minimum of 10ft x 10ft (100 sq ft). Height clearance: 12 feet to accommodate stacking.
Storage Conditions: Dry storage is essential. The warehouse must be well-ventilated to prevent mold or mildew growth. Surfaces should be stable and level. Dust and debris must be minimized.
Special Handling: All historic artifacts are considered fragile. Each item requires individual padding with archival-quality foam or bubble wrap. Items deemed exceptionally fragile necessitate custom-built crates for secure transport and storage. Support bracing is recommended for unstable items.
Stacking/Shelving: Items can be stored on pallets, with a minimum pallet size of 48” x 40”. Shelving units with adjustable height levels are recommended for vertical space optimization. Stacking height should not exceed 5 feet to maintain stability.
Access Requirements: A standard 12ft x 12ft loading dock is required. Dock door width: 10 feet. A minimum clearance of 10 feet around the storage area is necessary for equipment access. Forklift access is required for palletized items. Door width: 10 feet.
